    Sandra Murray

Founder - Rovers Return Dog Rescue

Sandra is an animal welfare advocate with extensive hands-on experience in community-focused dog rescue work. She leads a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to helping lost, stray, and abandoned dogs in Southern California, prioritizing humane capture, on-site stabilization, and connection with care resources. The organization focuses on reducing unnecessary shelter intake by providing food, veterinary support, and sterilization services in areas where these resources are difficult for pet owners to access.

Sandra's involvement in animal care began with more than a decade of service at an established animal sanctuary, where she learned practical rescue skills and developed an understanding of field-based animal support. This experience laid the foundation for her decision to start her own nonprofit focused on direct aid for dogs living on the streets or in precarious circumstances.

Under her leadership, the rescue team works directly in the community—as "retrieval specialists" using humane methods to reach hard-to-catch dogs, administering vaccinations and sterilization, and coordinating with volunteers, fosters, and partner rescues to ensure that animals receive the care they need without unnecessary shelter impound. Sandra emphasizes compassionate, pragmatic action, seeking long-term solutions that keep animals safe and healthy while also supporting local pet owners through education about spay, neuter, and preventive care.

She and her team also maintain active communication with community members to share urgent needs, opportunities for support, and stories of animals helped along the way. Their work continues toward the long-term goal of establishing a dedicated sanctuary space where rescued animals can recover fully and prepare for placement in stable, loving homes.
